Uganda Film Festival 2024 concludes

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) successfully concluded the 11th edition of the Uganda Film Festival (UFF), capping off a two-week celebration of Ugandan cinema (May 23rd – June 7th, 2024). This annual event has solidified its position as a cornerstone of East African cinema, showcasing the vibrant narratives emerging from Uganda’s flourishing film industry. 

The 2024 festival theme, ‘Local Stories, Global Impact,’ underscored the richness of Ugandan cinema and its potential to resonate with audiences worldwide. Since its inception, the Uganda Film Festival has been instrumental in the development of the nation’s film sector, providing a platform for filmmakers to present their work and fostering an environment where local stories gain global appreciation. 

“Over the past decade, the Uganda Film Festival has grown into a transformative force for our local film industry,” said Meddie Kaggwa, Head of Multimedia and Content. “With each edition, we’ve witnessed an inspiring convergence of talent, creativity, and passion. Eleven years of celebrating Ugandan cinema have not only elevated our filmmakers but also amplified our unique narratives on the global stage. The festival’s impact extends beyond the screen—it empowers storytellers, fosters collaboration, and ignites a sense of pride in our cultural heritage.” 

The festival offered a dynamic program for film enthusiasts and aspiring filmmakers alike. Nominated and selected films were screened across Ugandan cinemas, increasing visibility and audience engagement with local content. Industry experts led training sessions, workshops, and forums, offering valuable insights and skills for those looking to develop their craft.
