Oct 19, 2023
The British Film Designers Guild (BFDG) and global design and BIM software provider Vectorworks, Inc. have joined forces to launch an exclusive competition that encourages film and television design students and trainees to share their work on Instagram stories.
The prize for the 5 winning designs will be a pair of tickets to attend the BFDG’s glamorous 13th Production Design Awards, the highlight of the Film and TV design year, to be held at The Londoner Hotel in London’s Leicester Square on 24th February 2024.
The awards ceremony will be attended by world-renowned production designers and Art Department creatives as well as BFDG members, valued supporters and friends from the industry. Awards will be given for outstanding work on film, TV and commercials released during 2023 that celebrate the professionalism, creativity and skill of the Art Department and the Planet Positive Award. The winners of the competition will have the opportunity to attend the entire evening with opportunities to network with some of the best Art Department creatives in the industry.
Vectorworks has a long and successful association with the BFDG both as a corporate member and a sponsor of the Production Design Awards. The company runs regular training sessions, both in person and online for BFDG members to help them improve their skills in using Vectorworks design software which is used extensively in many Art Departments across the film industry to design sets and create the plans from which they are built.
Vectorworks Senior Industry Specialist Kesoon Chance said: “It’s inspiring to review these entries every year and to see the creativity of the next generation who always produce quality work. I look forward to seeing this year’s entries from the future trailblazers of the industry as they showcase their skills and designs.”
To enter the competition Film and TV design students and trainees should post their images on Instagram stories and tag @Vectorworks and @british_film_designers_guild. Images of work can be drawings, visuals, photography of handmade models or mood boards. They don’t have to be designed in Vectorworks. The entries will be judged by Vectorworks Senior Industry Specialist Kesoon Chance and the BFDG’s Chairperson, Blair Barnette.
