Sony expands VP Lineup with new crystal LED CAPRI series

Jun 6, 2025

Sony has announced the launch of its new Crystal LED CAPRI series, expanding its LED wall portfolio with a more accessible solution for virtual production across television, film, broadcast, corporate, and live event markets. The CAPRI series introduces two new models, the ZRD-VS25FB and ZRD-VS25FM, offering a compelling combination of high image quality, ease of use and system compatibility.

With a pixel pitch of 2.50mm and a maximum brightness of 1,500 cd/m², the CAPRI panels deliver sharp, vivid images suited for demanding production environments. Featuring refresh rates of up to 7,680Hz, wide DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage (over 98%), and advanced anti-reflection properties, the new displays are engineered to support smooth, lifelike visuals with minimal visual artefacts, even in complex lighting setups.

“The announcement of CAPRI furthers our commitment to virtual production and spatial content creation by giving a wider range of users opportunities for flexibly showcasing images in high fidelity,” said Sebastian Leske, Head of Business Development, Sony Europe. “We’ve broadened our lineup to offer more cost-conscious choices, which expand the market in support of high-quality virtual production at every level and ensure the growth of Sony’s distinctive virtual production ecosystem.”

The ZRD-VS25FB is compatible with Brompton’s Tessera SX40 controller, while the ZRD-VS25FM supports Megapixel’s HELIOS controller, making the CAPRI series adaptable to existing industry-standard workflows. This compatibility also aligns the CAPRI series with Sony’s premium VERONA series, enabling users to combine panels from both lines—such as using VERONA as a main wall and CAPRI on the ceiling—within the same virtual stage.

Targeted at a wide customer base, the CAPRI series is designed to meet the needs of productions looking to achieve high-end results with greater cost efficiency. The panels are well suited not only for studios and rental houses but also for corporate and staging applications. Sony has focused on streamlining the installation and maintenance process, offering a familiar cabinet structure optimised for quick assembly and dismantling using locating pins and a tool-free lever locking system.

The CAPRI panels are modular and can be configured in various shapes and sizes, including curved and oval setups. A strengthened frame supports increased weight loads, while protective design elements such as edge protection plates and pin slides help minimise wear and tear.

To reduce downtime and improve on-set efficiency, the CAPRI series includes rear-serviceable LED module blocks with built-in status indicators, allowing technicians to quickly identify and service individual components without interrupting production.

Sony has also ensured that the CAPRI series integrates fully into its broader virtual production ecosystem. The panels work seamlessly with Sony’s suite of tools, including cinema and PTZ cameras, marker-free camera tracking systems, previsualisation tools, and multi-camera live switching. Within this ecosystem, the CAPRI panels support Sony’s Virtual Production Tool Set, including the Color Calibrator, which ensures colour consistency between previsualisation and dailies.

A forthcoming update—Version 3.0 of the Virtual Production Tool Set, expected in autumn 2025—will introduce off-axis colour shift compensation exclusive to select Sony LED models, including CAPRI, VERONA, and the B-series. This real-time feature will use camera position data to correct colour shifts caused by curved or angled installations, significantly reducing the need for post-production grading.

The Crystal LED CAPRI series is slated for release in winter 2025. With the launch, Sony continues its strategy to make high-performance virtual production tools more widely available while maintaining the visual quality and system flexibility that have become hallmarks of its Crystal LED technology.
