Six productions that contributed to the Film Skills Fund have been selected to play at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
Sam Mendes’ Margate-shot Empire of Light, starring Olivia Colman and Colin Firth, will receive its Canadian premiere, playing in the Special Presentations section of the festival.
Fellow British filmmaker Joanna Hogg’s latest offering, The Eternal Daughter will receive its North American premiere, while there are world premieres for Stephen Frears’ The Lost King and Sir Richard Eyre’s Allelujah, starring regular collaborator Dame Judi Dench.
Florian Zeller’s The Son, the follow-up to his Oscar-winning The Father, has also been selected, alongside Triangle of Sadness, the Cannes conquering satire from Swedish director Ruben Östlund.
The festival, often viewed as a launching pad for award hopefuls, will take place in the Canadian city from 8 – 18 September.
