Murals wins audience award for best immersive/XR work at LFF
Oct 31, 2023
The 67th BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express announces that Murals by artists Alex Topaller, Daniel Shapiro and Artem Ivanenko, has won the 2023 Audience Award for Best Immersive / XR work.
Placing audiences at the heart of the Festival, the LFF Audience Awards, are chosen by members of the public who saw the films during the Festival (including at UK-wide venues).
The UK premiere of ‘Murals’ was presented on a 11 metre-long curved screen at the Bargehouse venue at Oxo Tower Wharf as part of this year’s LFF Expanded programme.
A powerful and poignant immersive visual experience, the devastation of the war in Ukraine is juxtaposed with Banksy’s poignant murals, showcasing the country’s ongoing fight for peace and freedom.
Murals, which saw its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival in May 2023, uses cutting-edge 3D scanning technology to place viewers face to face with the war devastation in Ukraine, capturing Banksy’s artwork left on the rubble of people’s homes, schools and infrastructure. Participants experience these powerful images, which tackle warfare and destruction, while also finding hope and determination in those caught up in the maelstrom of conflict.
Murals is created by Alex Topaller, Daniel Shapiro of New York based creative studio Aggressive and Ukrainian 3D artist Artem Ivanenko, with virtual production studio ATM Virtual and PixelRace.
