Lensworks has announced the addition of a new 25mm ultra wide lens to its X65 large format prime series, “further expanding one of the industry’s most comprehensive lens families designed specifically and ready for next-generation large format cinematography”.
The new 25mm joins the growing X65 lineup, which has been developed to “meet the increasing demands of modern large-format image capture”, Lensworks said, including coverage for the latest ultra-large-format sensors such as the ARRI Alexa 265, Fujifilm ETERNA, Blackmagic 17K, and Sony’s emerging Venice 2 9.6K sensor platform.
Designed and manufactured by Lensworks in Burbank, California, the X65 series “combines expansive image coverage with fast apertures, compact form factors, exceptional close-focus performance, and a modern optical design optimised for the resolution requirements of today’s highest-end cinema cameras”.
“The introduction of the 25mm marks an important milestone for the X65 family,” said Stephen Gelb, owner of Lensworks.
“As camera sensors continue to grow in size and resolution, cinematographers need lenses that not only cover these formats but also deliver the performance, speed, and usability required on professional productions. The X65 platform was designed from the beginning with that future in mind.”
The new 25mm ultra wide is said to provide cinematographers with a dramatic wide-angle perspective while maintaining the image quality, consistency, and large-format coverage that define the X65 series.
The lens is particularly well suited for immersive landscapes, architectural photography, large-scale visual effects work, and dynamic camera movement where maximum field of view is desired without compromising image integrity, Lensworks explained.
