Leitz Cine expands the THALIA 65 family of extra-large format lenses with a new ultra-wide 20mm focal length.
Purpose built for the needs of 65mm film and digital 65 formats, the 11 focal lengths in the THALIA 65 family offer an elegant option for cinematographers looking to push their images further. Ranging from 20mm to 180mm, the lenses are based on Leica’s S medium format glass, which is known for its incredible portraiture, rich color and beautiful skin tones.
The full set of Leitz THALIA 65 primes are incredibly dynamic with three 2:1 macro lenses (24, 55, and 120mm) as well as the unique Thalia-T 90mm, which is inspired by the soft focus, dream-like qualities of the 1930s Leica Thambar lens. With a uniform 95mm front diameter and matched focus/iris ring locations, these lenses are among the smallest and lightest professional lenses for the 65mm format. All the THALIA 65 lenses include /i technology and have swappable mounts between PL and LPL.
Leitz THALIA 65 lenses can be seen in action on many large format productions, including: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (DP: Philippe Rousselot, ASC, AFC), Lisey’s Story (DP: Darius Khondji, ASC, AFC), The Little Mermaid (DP: Dion Beebe, ASC, ACS), and Radioactive (DP: Anthony Dod Mantle, ASC, BSC, DFF).
