Jomo Fray and Ed Lachman ASC amongst winners at ASC Awards

The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) revealed Edward Lachman ASC earned the org’s 2025 theatrical feature film award for Maria. The 39th ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton, also recognised Jomo Fray for Nickel Boys in the Spotlight Award category, and Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw for the documentary Gaucho Gaucho. Winners in the television categories included Robert Elswit, ASC for Ripley, Sam Mccurdy ASC BSC for Shōgun, and Richard Rutkowski ASC for Sugar. In the music video category, Pepe Avila del Pino AMC received the ASC Award for 313.

This is Lachman’s first win in an ASC theatrical or television category. He was previously nominated for Far From Heaven (2003), Mildred Pierce, (2011), Carol (2016), and El Conde (2024). Lachman was honoured with the ASC’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.

This is the second ASC Award for Dweck and Kershaw who won in 2021 for “The Truffle Hunters.”

Elswit previously earned an ASC Award for “There Will be Blood” (2008), as well as a nomination for “Good Night, and Good Luck” (2006).

This was Rutkowski’s third nomination following nods for “Manhattan” in 2014 and 2015.

Last year’s ASC feature film winner was Hoyte van Hoytema, ASC, FSF, NSC for “Oppenheimer.”
