EMIFF and Mallorca Preservation Foundation present Conscious Cinema

The Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival (EMIFF) and the Mallorca Preservation Foundation join forces to launch the first environmental film series, entitled Conscious Cinema. This cycle arises with a double objective; that of generating greater awareness about the environmental challenges facing our planet, while vindicating the role of cinema as a tool to raise awareness and mobilize society.

Conscious Cinema is a space for meeting and reflection that goes beyond a series of screenings. It is a platform dedicated to exploring and highlighting the most pressing challenges facing our planet, using cinema as a powerful vehicle for awareness and social transformation. Throughout this cycle, four documentaries will be presented that address crucial issues such as underwater noise pollution, ecosystem restoration through sustainable agricultural practices, innovative solutions to combat climate change and the conservation of emblematic cultural and natural landscapes.

The Environmental Film Series proposes the viewing of four documentaries, all linked to the work carried out by Mallorca Preservation. The films will be screened at the Estudi General Lul·lià at 6:30 p.m.

  • On September 19 , Sonic Sea will be screened, a documentary that addresses the problem of underwater noise and its impact on marine fauna, especially cetaceans. After the screening, Dr. Txema Brotons, an expert in cetaceans and marine acoustics, scientific director of Tursiops, will participate as a speaker.
  • On October 10 , Ganado o Desierto will be screened, a documentary about the use of livestock to regenerate ecosystems and strengthen rural economies. After the screening, Marga Adrover, veterinarian and project manager at APAEMA.
  • OnNovember 4, within the framework of the EMIFF, 2040 will be presented, a film that presents practical solutions to environmental problems, imagining a hopeful future for the protagonist’s daughter in the year 2040. After the screening, Marga Melià, a Mallorcan filmmaker committed to the environment, will take part.
  • On November 13 , Pedra i Oli will be broadcast, a documentary about the dry stone heritage and olive groves of the Serra de Tramuntana. After the screening, Álex Dioscorides, director of the documentary, will take part.

Sandra Lipski, director of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival, said:”For Evolution Mallorca International film festival it is very important to support activities that promote environmental awareness. We are delighted to screen part of the Conscious Cinema series at this year’s festival.”

Ana Riera, director of Mallorca Preservation, said: “We are very happy to collaborate with EMIFF and to be able to deal with issues of environmental relevance for Mallorca, raising awareness about the importance of protecting our environment and leaving a better island for our children. In addition to enjoying the screenings, attendees will also be able to participate in talks with the directors of some films and experts on the topics addressed, who will share their vision and experience in related projects.
