Busan Film Commission and BASICTECH collaborate on advanced VP stage

South Korea’s Busan Film Commission (BFC) has joined forces with BASICTECH’s Media Solution Department to launch the VP stage, a dynamic facility designed for film, TV and commercial productions. At its core, the stage features a large, fine-pixel LED screen, driven by Brompton Technology’s cutting-edge LED processing. This technology offers an advanced alternative to traditional green and blue screens, setting a new standard in production by delivering unparalleled visual capabilities.

BFC is a pioneering organisation dedicated to supporting film production and has been instrumental in transforming Busan into a ‘city of film’. Its VP stage measures 20.5m by 3.5m and is equipped with an AOTO RM series 2.31mm pixel pitch curved LED wall , powered by three 4K Tessera SX40 LED processors and six Tessera 10G data distribution units. The state-of-the-art setup also includes an MRMC Bolt high-speed cinema robot and Disguise vx4 and rxII media servers, among other high-quality equipment.

Brompton LED processing ensures that the VR stage delivers exceptional colour fidelity, allowing producers to create immersive environments with lifelike accuracy. By offering real-time control over colour and brightness, Tessera software and hardware makes it possible to seamlessly intergrate live-action footage with virtual elements, reducing post production time and costs while enhancing creative possibilities.

BASICTECH is a seasoned player in the video industry, offering optimal solutions with one of the largest collections of video equipment in Korea, including LED and projection technology, backed by a team of over 80 professional engineers. Busan, with its diverse natural landscapes and robust infrastructure, has long been a popular filming location. The construction of this studio addresses a critical need for indoor facilities, which producers have previously found lacking.

Gil Young-min, CEO of JK Film and the producer behind successful films like Collateral, Gongjo, and Gukje Market, highlights the importance of the studio. “Getting a reservation at the Busan Film Studio is fiercely competitive. As soon as our production schedule is set, the first thing I do is secure a provisional contract,” he notes. “It’s one of the most preferred cities for film crews because of its accessibility and excellent infrastructure. Having both studio and location shoot options in the same city is highly efficient and significantly influences our decision-making process when looking for a perfect filming spot.”
