Simon Duggan ASC ACS began his career shooting commercials, and has since photographed hundreds of international campaigns, often with frequent collaborator and director Noam Murro. His commercial work has earned him numerous accolades, including two AICP Awards and more than two dozen Australian Cinematographers Society Awards.
His first feature, The Interview (1998), earned him the Best Cinematography Award from the Film Critics Circle of Australia. Since then, he has photographed more than a dozen features, where he has collaborated with directors Murrow (on 300: Rise of an Empire), Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard and Underworld: Evolution) and Alex Proyas (I, Robot; Knowing; and Garage Days).
His work on Baz Luhrmann’s feature adaptation of The Great Gatsby garnered Duggan a Best Cinematography Award from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) as well as a Gold Award from the Australian Cinematographers Society.
Duggan’s other feature work includes the World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge — which earned him another AACTA Award for Best Cinematography and nominations from the Australian Film Critics Association and Camerimage — as well as the action fantasy Warcraft, romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic, and action thriller Killer Elite.
His upcoming work includes Disenchanted, the sequel to Disney’s musical fantasy Enchanted, and director George Miller’s Furiosa, which serves as a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road.
