AMPS Excellence in Sound for a Feature Film award winner announced

The Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) has announced Dune: Part II (Warner Bros) as the winner of the 2025 Excellence in Sound for a Feature Film.

The winners of the 12th annual AMPS Excellence in Sound for a Feature Film are:

  • Gareth John AMPS
  • Tom Harrison AMPS
  • Martin Kwok
  • Richard King AMPS
  • Ron Bartlett
  • Doug Hemphill

The prestigious polished bronze AMPS trophy is awarded annually for Excellence in Sound for a Feature Film. The winners will each receive a trophy, which will be presented to them at a later date.

On the winning film AMPS Chair Andrew Wilson said: “The sound for Dune: Part II was astonishing, and key to immersing the audience in Denis Villeneuve’s expansive world of Arrakis. It is a deeply impressive piece of filmmaking demonstrating the power of sound as a storytelling device. From the power of the Sandworm ride to the tiniest grains drifting in the lightest of winds the sound is detailed and nuanced, creating a memorable experience. AMPS is honoured to recognise the work in sound of Gareth John AMPS, Tom Harrison AMPS, Martin Kwok, Richard King AMPS, Ron Bartlett, Doug Hemphill and their sound teams.”

The Dune: Part II Sound team said:“We are deeply honoured and humbled for the recognition and honoring of our film, Dune: Part II. We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone at AMPS for this incredible award. This acknowledgment is especially meaningful because it comes from sound professionals—our peers and colleagues who understand the artistry and dedication it takes to create immersive cinematic experiences. In their annual awards AMPS recognise multiple facets of the Sound industry, recognising outstanding contributions from sound professionals who bring cinematic stories to life through the power of sound. The awards honour key roles including Production Sound Mixer, Supervising Dialogue/ADR Editor, Supervising Sound Editor or Sound Designer, and Re-recording Mixer. Production Sound Mixers can nominate a Key 1st Assistant Sound for exceptional contributions, ensuring all critical team members are acknowledged.
