
The American Film Institute has revealed its honourees for its 10 Motion Pictures of the Year and Television Programmes of the Year for 2025.
Often seen as a key indicator for potential Oscars success, the lists spotlight “10 outstanding films and 10 outstanding TV programmes deemed culturally and artistically representative of this year’s most significant achievements in the art of the moving image”, as per the AFI.
An additional honouree was selected in the category of AFI Special Award, designated for “works of excellence that fall outside of the Institute’s criteria of American film and television” – scooped by Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident, which was lensed by Amin Jafari.
The AFI Motion Pictures of the Year honourees are:

- Frankenstein
- Hamnet
- Jay Kelly
- Marty Supreme
- One Battle After Another
- Sinners
- Train Dreams
- Wicked: For Good
Meanwhile, the Television Programmes of the Year honourees are:
- Adolescence
- Andor
- Death by Lightning
- The Diplomat
- The Lowdown
- The Pitt
- Plur1bus
- Severance
- The Studio
