London Film School awarded World-Leading Specialist Provider status
Dec 12, 2022
London Film School (LFS) has been awarded World-Leading Specialist Provider status by the Office for Students.
The status marks LFS out as being recognised internationally in the filmmaking specialism, providing a level of quality and expertise among the finest in the world. In receiving this accolade, the knowledge and skills of LFS graduates, and the enduring impact they have on the industry, are recognised by leading employers, external funders, other world-leading providers and others in the UK and beyond.
As part of the new status, LFS will receive funding from the Office for Students in recognition of the high cost of the education of a subject which is extremely expensive to deliver. The funding goes some way to help manage the expense of high cost of delivery of the subject areas. The small, focused class sizes, the high costs for specialist filmmaking equipment and operating as a small institution means that the additional funding can have a significant impact.
Funding will enable LFS to maintain its world-leading specialist film provision including investment in facilities and equipment and continuing to attract industry-leading practitioners to teach in our unique conservatoire model.
“This deserved recognition shows LFS to be a leader in its field, delivering education in filmmaking, screenwriting and film business at the highest possible level,” commented Interim Director, Peter Holliday. “As a School we are hugely proud and honoured to have been awarded this status, allowing us to offer more students an opportunity to gain experience at exceptionally high levels.”
The World-Leading Specialist Provider status follows immediately after LFS named Neil Peplow as the new Director and CEO, taking over from Interim Director, Peter Holliday. Peplow, who is currently Director of International and Industry Affairs at the British Film Institute, will start in his new role leading LFS on 30 January 2023.
