BSC Short Film Cinematography Competition winners crowned

Two talented cinematographers have been announced as the winners of the BSC Short Film Competition 2022, held at Vue West End in London’s cinema heartland of Leicester Square.

First-time winner Michael Filocamo came out on top in the BSC Club Category for his work on Baba, directed by Sam Arbor and Adam Ali. Filocamo, originally from Australia, studied on the National Film and Television School’s (NFTS) Cinematography Masters programme and his graduate fiction project, Azaar, was nominated for Best British Short Film at the 2020 BAFTAs. His prize is a camera rental package based on an Alexa 35 or LF, and Signature Prime lenses and zooms from the event’s sponsor, ARRI.

The winner of the Student Category is Whiteboy, shot by NFTS student Jack Edwards. The film, directed by Matty Crawford, tells the story of a young boy who moves from England to the Philippines due to his parents’ separation. Edwards’ prize is a camera rental package based on an Alexa Mini and Signature Prime lenses from ARRI.

Nominated for their cinematography in the BSC Club Category were Aaron Rogers (Bando), Tristan Chenais (Edicius) and Luciana Riso (The Future Isn’t What It Used To Be); meanwhile, the Student Category nominees were Estefania Carpio (Brutal), Jamie Touche (Trinou) and Lukáš Bistřický (Virile).
