Leitz creates tool to compare lenses

Jan 20, 2025

Earlier this year Leitz completed the most extensive test of their wide array of lenses to date and that footage is now available online as a tool that allows cinematographers and filmmakers to compare up to four different lenses on a single screen.

The test features lenses from seven different sets of Leitz prime lenses as well as the Leitz Zooms series. Directed by lens aficionado Jay Holben and shot by Kaity Williams, this test was designed to capture a cinematic scene with multiple characters as well as camera movement that incorporates many of the lens features that cinematographers look at when choosing lenses for a new project, including: close focus, distortion, usable circle of illumination, skin tones, bokeh, flare and more.

Users can select from a variety of focal lengths and apertures to get a true sense of what unique features each series of Leitz lenses has to offer. Curious about the difference between the new Leitz HUGO and Leitz ELSIE lenses? Want to see the coverage of Leitz super 35 glass on a full frame sensor? The Leitz lens comparison tool is the best place to start.
