After nearly six years since its inception by founders Agnieszka Szeliga and Lucy Bristow, Women Behind The Camera (WBTC) continues to thrive. As a reflection of this success, Núria Pérez, Rozemarijn Stokkel, and Tamia Diaz have been appointed as new directors to continue growing the company’s long-term vision.
Over the years WBTC has launched impactful initiatives, driving positive change in the film and TV industry and expanding their platform dedicated to supporting, educating, and inspiring both new and experienced female camera professionals. In response, Núria said: “I’ve been a volunteer for over two years, and now joining forces with Tamia Diaz and Rozemarijn Stokkel, we’re continuing to strengthen the foundation for the group to organise workshops and webinars, allowing us to continue learning together and helping members polish their skills. A key focus for us is ensuring that all of our events remain free and accessible to everyone”.
Additional highlights over the years have included a financial and wellbeing workshops with financial advisor Emily Man and a resilience training with Kirstie Wright and group meditation with Bella Clark, Textiles Day workshop with GreenKit, a lighting workshop led by renowned Gaffer Cullum Ross with Shoot Blue and Remote Head Workshops with ARRI and DLP Films. Moreover, operating workshops with CVP and ARRI have empowered women and non-binary talent, providing sustainable and industry-led skills. Many cinematographers and operators have requested more lighting and camera workshops, which the company is excited to deliver. WBTC also continues its presence at key events like BSC Expo, BSC Awards and Camerimage.
Now registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC), WBTC can apply for government and arts funding, charitable grants, and industry sponsorships to support gender equality in film and TV. The CIC status gives it the structure, legitimacy, and opportunities to expand its reach. WBTC continues its mission to grow its strategic partnerships with the core aim of providing its members with educational and professional opportunities to grow and thrive in the industry.
Commenting on these exciting changes, Tamia said: “The new business structure for WBTC excites me because it is driving the company forward both financially and activity wise. What I mean by this is I see there being more workshops that can be repeated and funded, therefore more support for our membership. Within the leadership, the three directors are all playing to their strengths, each of us able to extract the best out of the others to make a truly unified approach to decision making and a drive to achieve more”.
Rozemarijn shared her thoughts, saying: “In 2025, we’re introducing a new process for adding talented professionals to our database. With the growing demand for female crew, we want to ensure that everyone listed is a skilled professional with proven experience – giving productions confidence in finding the right people for the job. One of the things I’m most excited about for this year is repeating our financial and wellbeing event. Last year we had a full day of financial advice, group meditation and resilience training. A huge success. Knowledge is power, being educated makes you feel strong and secure. Our workshops and events are free to make them accessible for everyone”.
