Venice Film Festival announces awards winners

Venice Film Festival has announced the winners of its 2025 awards.

Scooping the top prize of the Golden Lion for Best Film was comedy-drama Father Mother Sister Brother by Jim Jarmusch, an anthology shot by Fred Elmes ASC and Yorick Le Saux AFC.

Meanwhile, powerful docudrama The Voice of Hind Rajab from Kaouther Ben Hania took home the Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize, while Benny Safdie received the Silver Lion – Award for Best Director for The Smashing Machine, which sees Dwayne Johnson don the gloves of MMA fighter Mark Kerr. 

The Venezia 82 Jury was chaired by Alexander Payne and composed of Stéphane Brizé, Maura Delpero, Cristian Mungiu, Mohammad Rasoulof, Fernanda Torres and Zhao Tao, with each viewing all 21 films in competition and deciding on the winners.

Toni Servillo in the film La Grazia by Paolo Sorrentino (Italy)

Award for Best Screenplay to:
Valérie Donzelli and Gilles Marchand for the film À Pied d’Œuvre (At Work) by Valérie Donzelli (France)

Special Jury Prize to:
Sotto le Nuvole (Below the Clouds) by Gianfranco Rosi (Italy)

Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress to:
Luna Wedler in the film Silent Friend by Ildikó Enyedi (Germany, Hungary, France)
