J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow to close 2023 Venice Film Festival

La Sociedad de la nieve (Society of the Snow) directed by J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible) is the Closing Film, Out of Competition, of the 80th Venice International Film Festival within La Biennale di Venezia, directed by Alberto Barbera (30 August – 9 September 2023).
The world premiere of La Sociedad de la nieve (Society of the Snow), an epic story of survival in extreme conditions, will be screened on Saturday 9 September in the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema at the Lido di Venezia; the screening will be held after the awards ceremony.
In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they have to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.
Directed by J.A. Bayona, La Sociedad de la nieve (Society of the Snow) is produced by Belén Atienza, Sandra Hermida and J.A. Bayona. It stars Enzo Vogrincic, Matías Recalt, Agustín Pardella, Esteban Kukuriczka and Tomas Wolf. The screenplay is by J.A. Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques, Nicolás Casariego from the novel by Pablo Vierci. The director of photography is Pedro Luque SCU. International Distribution is by Netflix.
