Baz Idoine welcomed into ASC membership

New ASC member Barry “Baz” Idoine was raised in New Zealand and made a name for himself as a talented camera operator before transitioning to director of photography on the popular Disney Plus series The Mandalorian, which presented a watershed in moving-image production with its use of LED-volume technology.

For his work on the acclaimed Star Wars series, Idoine earned the 2021 ASC Award for Episode of a Half Hour Series for Television as well as the 2020 Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour). He also added another Emmy nomination to his list of accomplishments in 2021. His recent work also includes the feature Alone Wolf.

Idoine’s credits as a second-unit cinematographer include the features Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryAmerican SniperThe Master and Vice.

He served as a camera operator on the series True DetectiveWestworld and Legion, as well as the features Jersey BoysThe Gambler and Wild Horses. His other camera-department work includes 1st AC work on There Will Be BloodMichael ClaytonGood Night, and Good LuckMission: Impossible — Ghost ProtocolTrafficErin Brockovich; and Ocean’s Eleven, among others.

Before transitioning to the role of cinematographer, Idoine (behind camera, with Filoni and ASC member Greig Fraser, center) had a successful career as a camera operator.

His recent credits include the forthcoming feature Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi.
