The American Society of Cinematographers has welcomed Laura Merians as a new member.

The cinematographer’s credits include the feature Octet and the series Imperfect Women and Dead Ringers

She won a Camerimage Golden Frog for her first feature credit, Paxton Winters’ Pacified, and was named an AC Rising Star of Cinematography in 2020.

Previously speaking on the British Cinematographer website about her route into cinematography, she said: “I didn’t study film, but I knew I wanted to be a DP the first time I saw a cinematographer doing their thing. It seemed like a job that was only limited by your imagination.”

This led to her working on Dead Ringers alongside Jody Lee Lipes ASC, with the show achieving critical acclaim.

On her time on the series, she revealed: “Watching Jody work and getting to know him was a highlight of this experience. Thought-provoking projects like Dead Ringers, where I get to push creative boundaries with brilliant people, really inspire me and keep me going.”

More information on Merians’ career so far is available on the ASC website.
