Academy reveals 2025 Student Academy Awards winners

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the winners of the 2025 Student Academy Awards.

Chosen from over 3,000 submissions from 988 colleges and universities worldwide, the winners will be presented with their prizes during the annual international student film awards ceremony on Monday 6 October.

They will join past winners and legendary filmmakers including Patricia Cardoso, Pete Docter, Spike Lee, Patricia Riggen and Robert Zemeckis as recipients of the award.

First-time honours go to students from the University of Copenhagen, Gobelins, Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School, Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, London College of Communication and University of the West of England Bristol. 

Gold, silver and bronze placements in the four award categories will be announced at the ceremony. 

Winners will also receive “a robust weekend of education programming, networking opportunities and exclusive access to Academy members to support their career advancement”, the Academy added. 

All Student Academy Award-winning films will be eligible to compete for the 98th Oscars in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film or Documentary Short Film categories. 

Past winners have gone on to receive 69 Oscar nominations and have won or shared 15 awards.
