Animatrik and NantStudios bring performance capture to LA

Apr 17, 2023

Leading performance capture provider, Animatrik Studios, announces its partnership with virtual production specialist NantStudios to offer industry-leading performance capture services in Culver City, Los Angeles.

Building upon the success of its Virtual Production ecosystem, NantStudios is investing in the future of performance capture with its technology-driven creative hub in LA for domestic and international productions. Following its successful partnership with Technicolor Creative Studios in 2022, NantStudios new performance capture stage with Animatrik brings a new level of technical capability and creative thinking to the Culver City location. Continued investment in next generation tools for film, TV, and games is driving economic growth, with the new stage already booking productions of all scales.

“It’s exciting to be partnering with NantStudios on our latest venture,” says Brett Ineson, CEO of Animatrik Studios. “By joining their existing services and location and bringing our expertise on board, we will be able to offer one of the most advanced performance capture stages and post-process pipelines in the world.”

Performance capture technology enables the movements of live action actors to be translated into 3D data for animation. This capability is at the heart of films such as Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame, and Ready Player One, along with games including the lauded God of War Ragnarok.

“We’re continuing to expand our virtual production offering globally and we are committed to fostering strong relationships with companies and clients who share our passion for utilizing virtual production. This innovative approach to filmmaking is revolutionizing the industry, unlocking new avenues of storytelling that were previously unimaginable,” comments Keaton Heinrichs, Vice President of Business & Operations at NantStudios. “As we stand witness to this exciting time in media, we eagerly anticipate our continued partnership with Animatrik to spearhead the performance capture aspect of this growth and bring forth a new era of cinematic excellence,” adds Michele Chan Soon-Shiong, President of NantStudios.

The stage is now open and taking bookings, leveraging commercial partnerships within the NantWorks ecosystem of companies to offer fully integrated services including performance capture, real-time art asset creation, consulting and LED in-camera visual effects.
