The British Short Film Awards has announced that Claudia Winkleman will host the ceremony’s fifth edition on 1 November 2026.

Winkleman, host of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing and the BAFTA-winning The Traitors, will present awards across 30 categories celebrating the UK’s finest short film talent.

The BSFA said: “The appointment marks a watershed moment for British short film, bringing unprecedented mainstream visibility to emerging filmmakers, bold storytelling, and creative risk-taking that defines the art form.”

“Claudia represents everything the British Short Film Awards stands for: authenticity, warmth, and genuine respect for storytelling,” said Bernhard Pucher, CEO of CenterFrame, the global filmmaking platform that powers the BSFA.

“Having her host Year 5 signals that short films aren’t on the sidelines of cinema anymore. They’re the main event. This is where careers begin, where directors find their voice, where the boldest work gets made. Claudia understands that, and her involvement brings the attention this community has always deserved.”

A former film show host with deep knowledge of cinema, Winkleman has become one of Britain’s most trusted broadcasters, known for her warmth, wit, and ability to connect with audiences across generations.

Her involvement is expected to generate significant press coverage and industry attention, elevating the profile of thousands of short films submitted to the 2026 edition.

“The British Short Film Awards exists for one reason: to give filmmakers the recognition they’ve earned and the platform they deserve. Having Claudia host isn’t about us. It’s about all the filmmakers who submit, the emerging talent breaking through, and the industry finally paying attention to where all the best work begins.” Pucher continued.

“Claudia hosting takes us to the next level. This November, when she takes the stage, it won’t just be an industry moment. It’ll be a cultural one.”
