
The full programme for the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival, running from 21 October to 29 October in Palma, has been confirmed.
Opening with Los Domingos, recent Golden Shell Award Winner at the San Sebastian Film Festival, the festival will feature over 130 films from 30 countries.
The nine feature films in the official competition selection include recent Venice Golden Lion winner Father Mother Sister Brother, Julia Ducornau’s Alpha, Rebecca Zlotowski’s A Private Life and Isabel Coixet’s Tres Adioses.
Cinematographer Phedon Papamichael ASC GSC will receive the Cinematography Icon Award during the festival for his work on emblematic titles such as Nebraska, Ford v Ferrari and A Complete Unknown, which will screen in the Spotlight section.
The well-established Cinematography Focus section of the event features talks and roundtables that include this year’s Sony-hosted Creating Emotion Through Cinematography roundtable (moderated by British Cinematographer), the Masterclass Anatomy of a Scene with cinematographer Jamie Ramsay SASC, and the Icon Talk with Papamichael.
Festival director Sandra Lipski also announced the recipient of the Evolution Icon Award – actor Steve Buscemi, whose credits include Reservoir Dogs, Fargo and TV series Boardwalk Empire, for which he won a Golden Globe.
Buscemi’s most recent film, Psycho Therapy, directed by Tolga Karaćelik, will close the festival on 29 October.
Buscemi joins director Julio Medem (Lovers of the Arctic Circle), who will be presented with the Evolution Vision Award for his “influential and idiosyncratic work”, the organisation revealed, as well as actress Ingrid García-Jonsson (Explota Explota), who will receive the Evolution New Talent Award, recognising “a fresh and promising voice in cinema”.
Other highlights in the film programme include the documentary Twiggy, with director Sadie Frost in attendance along with Twiggy herself, and the Spanish premieres of Fernando Frias’ Depeche Mode: M and Alex Burunova’s Satisfaction.
On the industry side, notable events include the returning Women in Leadership roundtable, moderated by the podcast Girls on Film, Innovation Focus with Largo AI, analysing the present and future of AI in film production, and a full day with OFF ESCAC and The Actor’s Home Network, which will focus on key topics for performers such as casting and marketing.
Academy Award-winning producer Kim Magnusson will also reprise his popular masterclass Road to Oscar.
