The Royal Television Society has opened the RTS Student Television Awards 2027 for entries until Friday 6 November 2026.
The winners will be revealed in a ceremony set to take place in June 2027 at the IET, Savoy Place.
The Awards “celebrate the next generation of TV talent across the UK and Ireland, giving students from colleges, universities and other higher education institutions the chance to put their creativity before the eyes of industry professionals”.
Fourteen awards are now open for submissions across seven categories, each with a dedicated Undergraduate and Postgraduate Award.
The categories are Animation, Entertainment and Comedy Drama, Drama, Factual (Short Form), Factual (Long Form), Journalism and Saving Our Planet.
Judges will also present Craft Skills Awards at their discretion, recognising “outstanding achievements” in Camerawork, Editing, Production Design, Sound, and Writing.
The judges “welcome submissions that display ambition, originality and creativity, and the RTS strongly encourages those that reflect diversity within the industry and wider society”.
Rhuanedd Richards, the BBC’s nations director (interim), will return to chair the RTS Student Television Awards 2027, having first taken on the role for the 2026 Awards.
She said: “The RTS Student Television Awards have a proud tradition of uncovering and championing the storytellers of tomorrow – finding individuals with the passion, vision and talent to shape the future of video production, filmmaking, and television journalism.
“These awards offer more than recognition; they open the door to possibility ensuring creativity and ambition are celebrated by leading industry voices.
“I’d like to extend my very best wishes to everyone preparing to submit an entry – what an exciting moment to share your work and your voice. I look forward with real anticipation to celebrating the imagination, passion, and creativity of this remarkable new generation of talent.”
When reviewing submissions, the judges are “mindful of differences between productions, specifically the budgets and time scales involved”, organisers explained.
Although the Awards are open for entries until 6 November 2026, the submitted films must have started production after 1 September 2025 and been completed by 31 October 2026.
