Supermodel Twiggy and Mexican director Fernando Frías present their documentaries exclusively in Spain this week, as part of the 14th edition of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival

The documentary Twiggy premieres today (23 October), while Frías’ documentary Depeche Mode: M will screen tomorrow, Friday 24, with both at Cineciutat.

There will be Q&A sessions with the protagonist and directors after each screening.

In their meeting with the press, Twiggy and the documentary’s director, Sadie Frost, reflected on authenticity, creativity, and the role of women in visual culture and fashion.

“I’ve been to Mallorca several times, and every time I feel something special. Mallorca is a place where I could live; it has a warm, genuine energy,” Twiggy said.

“When I was a child, I used to play with my mother’s makeup and had fun imagining other characters. If I wore a shorter skirt or something different, people laughed, but I enjoyed it. It was never an act – that’s just who I was: authentic, curious, free.”

Frost emphasised the importance of authenticity in the industry: “What has always inspired me about Twiggy is that her image wasn’t artificial. It was truly her. That naturalness remains an example for all women who work in fashion, film, or any creative field. Beauty is born from being true to oneself.”

Meanwhile, Frías explained that he has a very special relationship with Evolution Mallorca: in 2013, he won with his first feature film, when he was still a student.

“It was the first international festival I ever attended, and it opened the doors to many others,” the director recalled. “Coming back now, so many years later, and seeing how much the festival has grown is very moving. This is where it all began for me.”

The director added that this project allowed him to unite two of his greatest passions: music and imagery. “It was a challenge to translate the three-dimensional experience of a concert onto the screen – not interrupting the musical flow, but enhancing it,” he said.
