The Armenian Cinematographers Guild has partnered with the Golden Apricot International Film Festival and the GAIFF Pro Industry platform to launch the DoPing Cinematography Workshops.

Running from 15–17 July, this dedicated programme “celebrates the visual language of cinema by bringing world-renowned professionals and industry experts to Armenia”.

“Bringing cinematographers of this calibre to Yerevan is a historic milestone for our local and regional film community,” said Miko Malkhasyan, president of the Armenian Cinematographers Guild.

“This initiative is both about learning from industry legends and positioning Armenia as a rising hub for world-class cinematography.”

The event kicks off with a masterclass by Seamus McGarvey ASC BSC ISC, a two-time Academy Award nominee celebrated for his work on Atonement (2007) and Anna Karenina (2012).

The afternoon session will transition into “exceptional, hands-on” lighting workshops led by ACG and ASC member George Mooradian, alongside acclaimed gaffer Denny Mooradian, brought to Yerevan with the “generous support” of Nanlux.

Continuing the “powerhouse lineup”, day two opens with a masterclass by Mahmoud Kalari, a legendary figure in Iranian cinema who has lensed masterpieces for directors including Abbas Kiarostami, Jafar Panahi and Asghar Farhadi.

This will be followed by an industry discussion with entertainment publicist Francesca Zerenghi, founder of FRAN, a curated consultancy representing directors and DPs globally.

Focusing on providing practical, actionable steps for regional professionals looking to advance into the global film industry, her session will also cover the current industry landscape, looking at diversity and inclusion.

The final day of the DoPing Cinematography Workshops begins with an exclusive session featuring Bruno Delbonnel ASC AFC.

A six-time Academy Award nominee, Delbonnel is a “visionary stylist” renowned for his long-standing collaborations with directors such as Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Tim Burton, the Coen brothers and Wes Anderson.

The three-day intensive will conclude with an open roundtable discussion featuring the international guest speakers and ACG members.

In addition to the educational programming, participants can look forward to exclusive gear demonstrations and networking opportunities with representatives from global industry giants.

Featured camera brands include ARRI and RED, alongside lens manufacturer Leitz Cine and global lighting innovators Godox|Knowled, Nanlux and Aputure.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with the inventory of premier local rental house Taylor & Co.

The event will take place at the historic Cinema House in the centre of Yerevan and is open to the public upon registration.
