The London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art, London Film School and RD Content have announced the launch of the 2Day Film Challenge, an international 48-hour filmmaking competition.
“Bringing together three leading institutions across performance, filmmaking and production, the initiative creates a unique platform for collaboration and discovery within the global screen industries,” a press release said.
Finalists will have their films screened at a live gala event on Saturday 19 September at LAMDA, with awards including £20,000 worth of equipment hire, fast-tracked MA applications to London Film School and cash prizes.
Submissions for the 2Day Film Challenge are now officially open.
How it works
Filmmakers will be given a brief released online on Friday 3 July. From that moment, they will have just 48 hours to write, shoot and edit a three-to-five-minute film before submitting it for consideration.
A shortlist of selected films will then be reviewed by a panel of judges, with the top entries screened at the gala final in London.
Industry judges and final gala
The competition will be judged by a panel featuring some of the UK’s leading filmmakers and actors, including acclaimed filmmaker and legendary LFS alumnus Mike Leigh alongside other distinguished industry figures to be announced.
The judging process will culminate in a live event where selected films will be screened on the big screen. Winners announced on the night.
A global platform with industry backing
Unlike traditional competitions, the 2Day Film Challenge is open to all, with no prior experience required.
LAMDA, London Film School and RD Content are “united in a shared goal to remove barriers to entry and create opportunities for undiscovered voices”, they said.
With an “international focus at its core”, the competition encourages submissions from all over the world, celebrating diverse perspectives, storytelling styles and creative approaches.
Prizes and opportunities
Winners will receive a combination of cash prizes and industry support, alongside access to professional resources across all three partners.
Prizes include:
- Cash awards for top-placed films
- £20k worth of access to studio space, edit facilities and production support
- Fast-track pathways for applications to the London Film School
- Industry networking opportunities at the gala event
