The Production Guild to host Film Workflow Course

At a time when the use of film is becoming more common in the UK, The Production Guild are running a one day course this month in association with the GBCT, aimed at production crew who are experienced at working with digital capture but have little experience of working with film.

They are looking to recruit 10 Production Co-ordinators, Assistant Co-ordinators and Assistant Accountants who are committed to a long-term career in the UK film industry.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of shooting on film and the effects on production.  Participants will learn how to track and order film stock, as well as how to accurately record usage. This will enable them to pass detailed costs on to the accounts department and to financiers. See below for the full outline of what is covered on the course.

Areas covered will include:

  • Who is responsible for choosing and selecting stock
  • How much to order to cover the shoot requirements
  • How usage is tracked
  • Neg report sheets – how to read them correctly
  • The mathematics of negative report sheets
  • Liaison with the camera department – clapper loaders and central loaders
  • Creating a stock usage spreadsheet to help tracking to enable cost reports to be compiled
  • Stock taking with the camera department to enable timely re-ordering of film stock
  • Rushes delivery to the laboratory at the end of the shooting day
  • Rushes reports for clearance to enable the art department to strike sets, release actors from contracts etc.
  • Analysing paperwork to define shooting ratios
