The British Film Designers Guild (BFDG) has introduced a brand-new award, the Planet Positive Award (supported by Universal Pixels) as part of a commitment to support the art department into more sustainable practices. The Award encourages crews to produce environmentally sensitive designs and construction methods, using sustainably sourced materials, props and thoughtful end-of-life planning.
The Guild has pledged to encourage more sustainable practices in production design under the guidance of BFDG chair Blair Barnette.
“This important award is an essential milestone in the department’s commitment to do more to champion environmental sustainability in our work, and is part of the film and TV industry’s commitment to support society’s transition into a more sustainable future,” said Barnette.
“Universal Pixels are proud to be sponsoring the Inaugural Planet Positive Award. Sustainability has been at the core of Universal Pixels and our focus on ICVFX, from small projectors to large LED volumes, can help by reducing the need to move crews and equipment to different locations and enabling remote working, helping to reduce the environmental footprint of productions,” said Roly Oliver of Universal Pixels.
The Award will be presented to the winner at the 12th BFDG Production Design Awards supported by BEN on 18 February at The Londoner Hotel. The Award was developed in conjunction with albert and consultancy Creative Zero. Entries are welcome until 25 November.
