Cignpost diagnostics launches TV & Film “Pathfinders” programme

Jan 25, 2022

Leading Covid testing firm, Cignpost Diagnostics, will this week launch a pioneering work placement programme. The programme, called ‘Pathfinders’, will offer five people the opportunity to undertake a six-month paid placement on a TVproduction.

The Pathfinders programme highlights Cignpost Diagnostics’ commitment to the TV and film industry, and to people trying to forge their career in a sector that has been adversely affected by the pandemic.

Applications to the scheme will open on 17th January 2022 with interested candidates required to send in a two-page sample of written work or a two-minute audio/video clip demonstrating creativity.  Further information can be found here.

Successful applicants will be notified in mid-February and will then undergo a seven-day all-expenses paid workshop, funded by Cignpost Diagnostics, at Television Centre in London. Applicants will interact with current directors, producers, writers and camera crew, before beginning a six-month paid work experience programme with a live production.

Steve Rehman, Senior Customer Relationship Manager, TV and Film at Cignpost Diagnostics, will lead the Pathfinders programme.  Rehman, himself an experienced director, producer and lecturer said, “The film and TV industries have been disrupted heavily due to Covid-19 and opportunities for people looking to take their first steps in these dynamic sectors have been severely curtailed.

“Through Pathfinders, we aim to help the trainees gain an understanding of the variety of roles in the film and TV industry. Pathfinders will provide them with the opportunity to showcase creativity, through the six-month work experience scheme and contribute to some of the biggest productions. Cignpost has played an important role in creating covid-safe bubbles for over 200 TV and film productions during the pandemic. We believe this programme is an important way for us to contribute to the future success of this industry.”

Mat McHale, producer, BBC Casualty, said: “We have always been committed to providing opportunities for people who want to experience the vibrant world of TV production.  We look forward to welcoming the successful candidates joining our production teams and using the work experience as a solid platform to launch their careers in the industry.”

Cignpost Diagnostics will pay all successful candidates a salary above the London Living Wage and fund reasonable living costs for the duration of the placement. Placements will be on BBC Casualty, outputs from BBC Studios Comedy and Hartswood Films.

MAMA Youth Project which, for the last 15 years, has equipped people with long-term skills and experience necessary to work in TV & media, will provide guidance.
